If you’re considering tinting the windows of your car, truck or SUV, you may not know which tint is best for your vehicle. The type of tint you choose should be based on the finished look, your personal style, functionality and your budget. Here are the different window tinting types so you can make the right choice for your vehicle.

One of the first options you may want to consider is dyed window tinting. This is usually the cheapest choice and the tint does a great job of blocking sunlight because several layers of dye are applied to your windows. The dye soaks in the solar heat and keeps most of the heat from getting into the interior of your car. However, there are other types of window tint that provide more protection. Dyed tint is opaque and makes your vehicle a little more private. The tint does fade over time, at which point you’ll have to replace it.

You may also want to consider metalized window tinting. This is similar to dyed tint, but metalized tint will reflect heat off the car, which filters the heat and keeps it from getting trapped in your vehicle. In metalized tint, tiny metallic particles work together to block the sun instead of dye. The particles are so small that they are nearly invisible and are embedded in the tint film. Metalized tint also makes the window stronger and keeps it from shattering easily and is very shiny. If you choose this tint, you’ll notice a shine on your windows that makes them more visually appealing. Metalized tint also makes the glass more resistant to scratches than dyed tint. This type of tint lasts longer without fading, so you won’t have to replace it as soon as dyed tint.

Hybrid window tint is a viable option as well; this is a combination of dyed and metalized tint. The hybrid tint is usually a combination of gray dye and titanium, so it’s not extremely dark and doesn’t have too much of a mirror-like finish. Hybrid tint isn’t as bright as dyed tint and gives you adequate privacy while keeping out the harmful UV rays of the sun.

If hybrid tint isn’t for you, you may want to check out carbon window tint film. This car tint has several advantages that you won’t get from the other tint types. Carbon tint has a matte finish that makes it especially elegant. The carbon helps to block about 40% of IR radiations; these are the sources of heat that make the inside of the car too hot. This tint is a great choice if you want to ensure that your car’s interior won’t fade too soon. Carbon window tint not only keeps your car cool in the summer but provides some warmth during the colder months of the year.

If you want to tint your windows without making them too dark, you may want to ask your window tinting team about crystalline tinting. This tint blocks UV rays and solar heat without the need for dark tint. Actually, the crystalline makes it seem like there is no tint at all on your windows.
