It has been fifteen years since the Honda Pilot first made its entry into the SUV scene, and the last one to have graced the roads is the third generation of the car. It was groundbreaking in many ways, and from what can be seen of the 2019 Honda Pilot through the heavily camouflaged prototype, it can be assumed that the car is set to set new records. The last Honda Pilot went on sale around two years back, and the new car has reportedly come up with a better design and a lot of technological upgrades. The car has been spied running the tracks on Mojave, California, and it appears as though the company is giving the car a lot of upgrades to make it even more upmarket.
2019 Honda Pilot exterior
To be frank, the 2019 Honda Pilot prototype was too well camouflaged to give a very good glimpse of what is going on under all that cover, but it is clear that there have been quite a few styling changes, quite possibly to keep up with the likes of Chevrolet and Mercedes-Benz in this very competitive market. We are guessing that there will be a brand new front fascia and a modified grille that will be somewhat like the Ridgeline or the CR-V. It is also possible that there will be new taillights.
There are not too many changes to be spied in the appearance of the new Honda Pilot, but that is to be expected in a mid-season refresh launch. Honda’s new corporate face will probably be a part of the latest facelift of the 2019 Honda Pilot, and this might include the HR-V facelift, revamped front and rear sections, a new front grille, and multi-reflector LED headlights. The Pilot’s standard 18-inch wheels will probably see a comeback here as well, as much as could be gleaned from the car as it raced by on the track, and they are likely to be increased to a 20-inch diameter in the higher priced versions of the car. The taillights will probably be at least partially covered.
2019 Honda Pilot interior
It is unlikely that there will be too many changes in the interior of the 2019 Honda Pilot. The third generation Honda already came equipped with an eight-inch touchscreen display, complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Compatibility. The car is an eight-seater by the looks of it, and there is likely to be ample space for storage. You can expect a multi-angle reverse camera, an entertainment console for the rear seats, a panoramic roof, and Honda’s LaneWatch system. The higher priced variants will also come equipped with captain seats and the Sensing Safety technology developed by Honda.
2019 Honda Pilot engine and transmission
It is likely that there will be some significant changes seen under the hood of the new 2018 Honda Pilot. It can be expected that it will come with a hybrid or a plug-in option, working on the lines of the Accord hybrid and its double motor powertrain. This will, however, be a feature available on with the higher end models, and the standard version will probably come with the current model’s 3.5 liter V6. We get 280 horsepower off 208 kilowatts and 262 pound-feet of torque with the current engine, coupled with the Variable Cylinder Management.

That will likely be carried over in the standard 2019 Honda Pilot, although there will possibly be more upgrades in the top end models. The Touring and Elite models use a nine-speed gearbox, so we are guessing that will be available in the higher priced models of the Pilot, while the base models will come with the standard six-speed automatic.
There also seems the possibility that the Pilot will come with a 1.5 liter Atkinson cycle engine with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack thrown in. this combination will be seen in the 2019 Insight, and it seems unlikely that Honda will apply this to only one of its new models. If this is included, the Pilot will deliver great power and a tentative US EPA fuel economy rating of 21.3 kilometers per liter. This will bring it up to par with the compact hybrid cars. All-wheel drive is standard, and the car is equipped with start/stop technology and cylinder deactivation.
2019 Honda Pilot release date and price
The 2019 Honda Pilot is set to make its launch sometime in 2018 and will go on the market as a 2019 model. It is possible, if the rumor mill is to be believed, that the SUV will be accompanied by a sub-Pilot as well, possibly a new version of the Honda Passport. Honda has not declared anything worthwhile so far, so it is impossible to say what the price will be for certain, but we can safely assume that it will be comparatively higher priced than its predecessor.
